I‘m moving to another country. Where can
I find a list of quarantine requirements by country for shipping
pets? Unfortunately there is no one
source for quarantine and country requirements for shipping pets.
Even we must call the Embassies and Consulates to obtain the latest
shipping requirements.
Please be aware that shipments to countries in which there is a
quarantine on pets can be a time consuming and difficult process.
PetTransporter Worldwide specializes in these hard to do trips. For
example, we assist many clients who are shipping pets to
Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong, and mainland
China.

What documentation do I have
to provide for pet shipping?
Before we proceed you must provide us with information required
by the TSA and USDA, as well as authorization to continue to charge
your credit card. No exceptions can be made to these requirements.
These forms will be sent to you by fax, FEDEX or regular mail.
In addition, at the time of shipping, you must
provide original documents on each pet to include a rabies
certificate ( no less than one month, no longer than one year ), a
health certificate ( usually within 10 days ) and an Acclimation
Certificate specifying the temperatures at which your pet may fly. (
See
"What are Safe Temperatures?" )
Importation permits, USDA inspections, crate sealing or other
requirements may also be required for destinations outside of the
contiguous 48 states.
Additional information may be required for older
pets.

Where is my pet during the flight?
Pets are shipped in a pressurized and temperature controlled area
of the plane. The temperature is the same as it is in the passenger
area, and your pet can rest comfortably in his or her kennel crate
during the flight. When you use the cargo system pets are put on the
plane last and taken off first to assure their safety.

What are "safe"
temperatures?
Airport ground temperatures above 85 degrees Fahrenheit are
unsafe for traveling pets. In addition, certain pug nosed breeds
like Pekingese, Boston Terriers, and Shar-peis and other similar
breeds may have difficulty during the summer months for safe airline
travel and should not be shipped.
In the colder months, the airlines may not accept your pet if
ground temperatures are too cold. Your
veterinarian may provide a Certificate of Acclimation to the airline
defining a temperature at which your pet may fly.

How are fees set for each
trip?
There are a number of components to your fee. These include the
air cargo fee charged by the airlines (each one may have a different
fee), charges for ground transportation, transfers, communication
including long distance telephone calls, faxes
(domestic and international), overnight / express mail services, as
well as our processing fee. In addition you may incur
costs for board, vet services, permits, and for approved pet
carriers (crates). Each trip is different and may require many hours
of planning and the involvement of a variety of people. You will be
required to pay a non refundable deposit, which varies based on the
trip destination and number of pets, before we begin to act as your
agent.

This seems like an expensive process.
Is it tax deductible? Your pet's moving
expenses may be tax deductible depending on your circumstances. For
example, IRS Publication # 521 -- "Moving Expenses" clearly allows
pet moving as tax deductible relocation expenses when your
relocation and moving is for purposes of change of employment.

How do I know what size kennel to use?
Animals must have room to stand up and turn around. All kennels
must have at least one food and one water cup. Dual cups are
acceptable. Cups must be securely fastened to kennels. We can assist
you in obtaining the proper size and type of kennel. Crates may be
purchased from us. We do not rent crates.
